We are announcing the Neon Award for students of art universities

21. 7. 2021 → Signal 2021

As you know, one of the key directions of our festival is to support the youngest generation of contemporary art. Together with Pražská plynárenská, we are announcing the first year of the Neon Award for students of art universities. The aim of the open call is to support innovative art projects focused on current digital technologies, animation, motion design or 3D animation.

The task is to design a work of art specifically for the Neon Award and which is realizable by October 1, 2021, which will be part of the Signal Festival 2021 program. The costs of the creation of the work will be supported by the Signal Festival and Pražská plynárenská in the amount of CZK 200,000, which will be rewarded to the winner or the winning team to implement their project. Part of the award is the presentation of the project within the ninth edition of the Signal Festival, which takes place from 14 to 17 October 2021 in the streets of the Old Town, Holešovice and Karlín.

The awarded work will also become part of the art collection of Pražská plynárenská, whose portfolio includes works by respected Czech artists such as Toyen, Jindřich Štýrský, Adolf Hoffmeister, Jiří Kolář and Běla Kolářová.

What needs to be met?

  • to be an active student of an art university, including a collage in the Czech Republic (Czech nationality is not a mandatory)
  • the work must be created specifically for the Neon Award and must be realizable by October 1, 2021

Proposals together with a brief description of the project and confirmation of study must be sent to in any format as pdf, jpg, storyboard, etc. by August 30, 2021.

The quality as well as the overall feasibility of the project will be assessed by an expert jury composed of representatives of art universities, organizers of the Signal Festival and a respected artist of the Czech art scene.
