Pavel Mrkus & Samuel Jurkovič

Pavel Mrkus is a visual artist who, together with Daniel Hanzlík, founded the Time-Based Media studio at the Faculty of Art and Design of the J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, where he served as dean from 2015 until the beginning of 2023. Pavel Mrkus uses new technologies in his work. He has long been involved in audio-visual projects using digital visual and audio means, often in relation to a specific place. 

His works have been presented at the Brussels and Venice Biennials, the Chelsea Art Museum in New York, the Rudolfinum Gallery, the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region in Kutná Hora, the New Stage of the National Theatre in Prague, the House of Arts in Brno, the House of Arts in České Budějovice and the National Gallery in Prague. Since 2023 he has been chief curator of the Signal Festival, for which he has developed a three-year curatorial concept called Ecosystems.
