Dreams and visions are often abstract – at times elusive – but not necessarily impossible to realise. Into Imagination by Milan Cais is a monumental audiovisual sculpture: a giant mirrored cube that appears to have just landed from outer space. From its core, it emits sequences of moving images and sound like signals carrying messages about the dreams, fantasies and imagined worlds that shape contemporary life.

The audiovisual composition was created by Milan Cais using data gathered during an interactive happening held in the summer of 2026. Participants collectively assembled unique combinations of words selected from a vocabulary of one hundred terms describing states of mind, social situations, human and natural phenomena, as well as deeply personal emotions. The result is not only a striking sculptural intervention in a public park, but also a timely collective portrait of a generation. In keeping with the festival theme, Dream On!, the work embodies the membrane between our inner and outer worlds.

Artist

Milan Cais (born 1974) is a visual artist, performer, musician and co-founder of the band Tata Bojs. In the 1990s, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU), first in the Sculpture Studios of Professors Hugo Demartini and Jindřich Zeithamml, and later in Jiří David's Studio of Visual Communication. Alongside projections, animation, music videos and concert scenography for Tata Bojs, Cais has developed a distinctive visual arts practice spanning multimedia, sculpture, painting, illustration and public installations. Objects originally designed for entirely different purposes are frequently transformed into artworks that acquire unexpected meanings. Through playful forms, irony and wit, his work invites viewers to delve into their own memories and associations.

Cais has participated in numerous group exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad, and his works are represented in both public and private collections. His first solo exhibition, the visual diary 9 + 6, was presented at Galerie kritiků in 2006. Strong autobiographical themes also characterised Under the Skin, followed by Doors Inwards, the first exhibition in which his visual practice was no longer directly connected to music. Alongside objects and installations, it featured a series of abstract watercolours. One of his most significant recent projects was TATA 3OJS, a major exhibition at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art marking the band's 30th anniversary in 2018–2019. His latest exhibition, Contemporary Problems, held at Prague's Chemistry Gallery in 2024, focused primarily on his painting.

Location

Fleming Square in Prague's Dejvice district is a distinctive triangular public space landscaped as a park. Designed in the 1920s by architect Antonín Engel, it is surrounded by major institutions including the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the National Library of Technology. The square is named after Alexander Fleming, the Scottish physician and bacteriologist who received the Nobel Prize in 1945 for the discovery of penicillin. With its clean geometric form, Cais's installation enters into a dialogue with the surrounding architecture and the park's natural landscape.
