About project

MIMIC.2 uses light as a machine for illusion. Combining laser projections, LED screens and real-time generative animation, it creates an environment of shifting geometric structures that exist on the threshold between physical reality and digital imagination.

From the darkness, lines, points and volumes emerge, expand into space and dissolve once again. Solid forms are transformed into a dynamic play of light that pushes our perception of depth and dimensions of space.

In dialogue with the festival theme, Dream On!, MIMIC.2 explores the fragile boundary between what we truly see and what the mind instinctively completes. The forms that emerge appear convincing, yet remain elusive – much like the images we encounter in dreams.

Artist

Media.tribe is a collective of media artists creating audiovisual site-specific installations and performances since 2018. The collective comprises Sasha Kojjio, Alisa Davydova and Alexander Medvedev. Their visionary approach and ongoing spirit of innovation enable them to push beyond existing technological boundaries. Drawing on the principles of minimalism, the artists create immersive experiences that are both distinctive and constantly evolving. Their creative process combines art objects, light, sound, programming and coding. The collective develops its own laser devices, allowing it to continually redefine its artistic practice. Their installations have been presented at exhibitions and festivals throughout Europe, the Americas, Australia and Asia.

Location

The Faculty of Law was built in the Neo-Classical style between 1924 and 1931 based on a design by architect Jan Kotěra. Construction began after Kotěra's death, and the project was subsequently completed by Ladislav Machoň, who also designed the interior furnishings. The building's exterior is dominated by a triangular pediment bearing the Czechoslovak state emblem and the inscription Universita Karlova.

At its heart lies the spacious entrance hall, nicknamed "the swimming pool" because of its distinctive geometric layout and glazed roof. Its clean lines and rigorous architectural order provide the ideal setting for Media Tribe's choreography of light.
