About project

Living in Truth is a video mapping inspired by the ideas of Václav Havel and the power of words to shape society. The artwork draws directly on Havel’s 1978 essay The Power of the Powerless, in which he examines the mechanisms of a totalitarian system and contrasts living within the lie with living in truth – the concept that gives title to this videomapping.

Words such as Truth, Freedom, Justice, Love and Democracy gradually appear across the building’s façade. They are then confronted by a cold, impersonal force, causing them to distort, fragment and disappear. In doing so, the work reminds us that wherever lies become the foundation of a system, truth itself becomes one of the most powerful forms of resistance.

In the final section, the darkness begins to dissolve as new colours emerge. Rather than restoring the world to its former state, they create something new – a society that remembers its wounds and is able to grow beyond them. In the context of the festival theme, Dream On!, the installation suggests that dreams can be a source of hope, courage and change, but also an illusion capable of gradually distorting our perception of the world.

Artist

Svitlana Reinish is a Ukrainian media artist, art director, and theatre and costume designer. Her practice explores the intersection of technology and the aesthetics of traditional visual art. She specialises in video mapping, creates visuals for theatre productions, performs as a VJ at music festivals around the world, and develops visual concepts for private events. In 2019, she served as a jury member for the video mapping competitions at the Kyiv Lights Festival and in 2026 at the Video Mapping Festival in Lille.

Reinish graduated from the Kyiv Academy of Arts and later studied Theatre and Performance Design at the University of the Arts London. Her theatre practice focuses on scenography for opera and ballet productions.

Anton Dehtiarov is a music composer and electronic music sound producer from Uzhhorod, Ukraine. He is an academically trained piano and organ performer. Since 2013 he has worked as a composer for films and other multimedia projects. Since then he has also released 4 full-length albums and 3 EP's for his solo project Ptakh. He also has experience working in multimedia projects and art installations involving audio as a music composer and sound designer. Anton describes his music as a blend of academic harmonies with techno approach.

Location

The Old Town Hall was established in 1338 as the seat of the Old Town administration. The oldest part of the complex is the southern wing, with its projecting chapel and the world-famous Astronomical Clock. The original Gothic merchant's house of Wolflin of Stone became the foundation of the Town Hall, and in 1364 it was extended by the addition of its imposing tower. Rising to almost 70 metres, the landmark remains one of the defining features of Prague's Old Town Square.

The projection extends across two façades of the Town Hall, bringing centuries-old architecture into dialogue with an urgent contemporary message.
