About project

The interactive installation Constellation draws on the idea of imagined connections between stars. In reality, stars are separated by thousands of light-years and share no actual relation. Their positions in our sky are either fixed or follow predictable patterns related to Earth’s movement, recurring in regular cycles. For centuries, they have served as reliable reference points for orientation. By interacting with a system of kinetic objects, visitors can collaboratively create new constellations of imaginary star patterns. Through imagination, the mind is no longer lost in the vastness of space.

Artist

Pavla Sceranková is a leading Czech artist whose work reflects a deep engagement with the role of art in a world continually confronted by ongoing crises. She reflects on her capacity as an artist to engage with the world around her. Her long-standing artistic focus lies in exploring the physical relationship between object and sculpture. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where she completed her doctoral studies in 2011. Today, she co-leads the Studio of Intermedia Art at AVU with Dušan Zahoranský. Sceranková has presented her work in numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Fait Gallery in Brno, Pump House Gallery in London, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, and the City Gallery Prague. In 2015, she became a finalist for the Jindřich Chalupecký Award for the second time.

Location

Riegrovy Sady Park was established in 1902 through the merger of the former Kanálka garden with surrounding vineyards and estates. Some original structures have been preserved to this day. Over a century old, the park offers forested areas, open meadows, and iconic viewpoints, including sweeping vistas of Prague dominated by Prague Castle. Named after Czech politician František Ladislav Rieger, the park was temporarily renamed Smetana Park during World War II and later restored after the war. Pavla Sceranková’s interactive light installation is set into a sloping lookout point, where a clear vista allows visitors to experience the work in an undisturbed natural environment.
