About project
The interactive object EYE is the outcome of artistic research exploring the boundary between computer vision and human perception. It is a machine saturated with sensory input, constantly analysing its surroundings. Using computer vision and machine learning, it simulates a predictive brain that continually processes, forecasts, and updates its internal model of the world. Yet, like human perception, it naturally makes mistakes, generating new, alternative versions of its immediate environment. The object consists of a rotating head with a projector, enabling it to dynamically map its surroundings through projection while simultaneously visualizing its internal computational processes. The installation invites reflection on the possibilities of machine “sensory” cognition. In today’s advanced stage of technological development, the appeal of machine learning evokes ambivalent feelings: excitement over its potential and concern over its possible misuse.
The installation was created as part of the open call Signal Calling, which Signal Festival organizes together with PrusaLab by Prusa Research. Now in its sixth edition, the call encourages collaboration between artists and technology partners and aims to develop innovative forms of digital art. The installation titled EYE was developed and produced by PrusaLab, which has long provided artists with technical background and support for challenging projects as part of the challenge.
