About project

The Spanish studio V.P.M. presents a videomapping projection on the Basilica of St. Ludmila, exploring the theme of dynamic urban transformation. Futuristic architectural structures intersect with the rigid geometry of the church’s historic façade. V.P.M. presents the city as a living organism whose healthy development lies in our hands. Their proposed solution for sustainable urban growth lies in the thoughtful integration of natural and urban elements.

Artist

V.P.M. is a creative studio based in Barcelona, specializing in innovative audiovisual productions. It is led by two creative enthusiasts, Joan Nieto and Javier Cañal, who focus on videomapping and interactive projections. Since its founding in 2014, the studio has worked with light and sound, drawing inspiration from artistic, scientific, and technological fields as well as from nature. Today, V.P.M. ranks among the top audiovisual studios in Spain.

The sound for the videomapping was composed by Julien Chastagnol, a music producer from southern France. His work blends melodic electronica, IDM, and jungle into uniquely dreamy compositions that combine dark melodies with sharp, complex rhythms.

Location

The neo-Gothic Basilica of St. Ludmila is a prominent landmark in Prague’s Vinohrady district and one of the most iconic locations used for videomapping at the Signal Festival. The church was built between 1888 and 1892, based on a design by architect Josef Mocker. Its two 60-meter towers, each housing two bells, symbolize hands joined in prayer. The brick basilica features a cruciform layout and a richly decorated interior with colourful stained-glass windows of saints and an abundance of sculptural and painted ornamentation. The iconic basilica serves as both a canvas and a source of inspiration for V.P.M.’s reflection on the futuristic transformation of cities.
