About project

This 3D light projection onto water mist above the river is a manifestation of life energy concentrated in the space between layers of time. Tzolk’in is the name of the Mayan calendar, which defines the laws of time and natural energy. The installation works with the motif of the recurring dynamic of creation and extinction, a rhythm that guided civilizations thousands of years ago. It offers a solution for escaping the trap of constant time scarcity. The piece invites us to realize that we are merely a tiny part of vast cycles that far exceed us. The unique 3D waterscreen light projection technique is being presented at Signal Festival for the very first time.

Their mission is to share ideas and cultivate the world through striking visuals, interactivity, and kinetics. They believe that beauty should permeate every corner of life, and with over a decade of experience in interactive design and new media, they continue to demonstrate that digital technologies can be used to create poetic, aesthetically engaging, and impactful works of art. This year’s Signal Festival features two installations by the Peppercorns studio: in addition to Tzolk’in Light, you can also see Between Mountains and Seas at Republic Square.

Location

Dvořák Embankment in Prague’s Old Town stretches along the right bank of the Vltava River between Čech and Štefánik Bridges. It is named after the world-renowned Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. It is the lowest-lying of Prague’s embankments, built without major changes to the surrounding terrain. Thanks to its elevation and position, it was chosen as the site for Peppercorns’ waterscreen light projection. Today, the Dvořák Embankment serves primarily as a dock for passenger boats offering sightseeing and transport cruises. This part of the riverfront is known for its stunning views of Prague Castle and Letná Park across the river.
