How do you feel when you see a stinging jellyfish? These remarkable marine creatures have inhabited our planet for millions of years. In this series of workshops designed for our youngest festival visitors, children can discover them through playful, hands-on activities. The workshops are divided into two sessions: one for younger children and one for older participants with some experience using creative tools.
Medusa Valley is a project by Greek artist Yiannis Kranidiotis, developed as part of the Co-Vision project within a broader research initiative exploring the impact of climate change on the Greek coastline. One of the consequences of climate change in the region is the increasing number of jellyfish along the coast. Through creative activities, the project introduces these fascinating marine animals, highlighting not only their unusual appearance but also the many remarkable abilities they possess that remain still largely unknown.
Founded in 2005, Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) is Greece’s leading international festival for digital culture and creativity. For over 20 years, ADAF brings together artists, audiences, researchers, and creative communities through exhibitions, installations, video art, animation, digital image, web art, games, AR/VR/XR, performances, workshops, talks, kids’ activities, and international collaborations. The festival has an extensive international artist and artwork network, an extraordinary artwork database, strong academic collaborations, artistic research support , audience engagement, and cultural innovation. It has received over 21 national and international awards and laureates, and has been part of numerous EU programs on culture.
Session One: Ages 4–10 | 2:00 PM
Children will create and colour their own jellyfish before bringing them to life in a short animated film.
Session Two: Ages 10+ | 4:30 PM
This hands-on workshop introduces participants to basic technical skills, including soldering and LED strip programming. By the end of the session, each participant will have created their own illuminated jellyfish.
Please Note:
- Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or another responsible adult.
- No equipment is required; all materials will be provided by the organisers.
- The workshops will be conducted in both Czech and English.
